2008–2010 Studium der Philosophie (HFPH) und Nahostwissenschaften (LMU) in München. 2010–2012 Auslandsaufenthalt und Arabisch-Studium in Damaskus, Syrien und Beirut, Libanon. 2012–2013 Master of Arts in Middle Eastern Studies mit Schwerpunkt Musik an der School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London (Thema der Arbeit: Listening to the Nation: Reflections on Syrian Music from Exile, Betreuer: Prof. Owen Wright). 2014–2015 Tätigkeit als Robert-Bosch-Kulturmanagerin am Goethe Institut in Kairo, Ägypten. 2015–2019 Promotionsstipendiatin der Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes, 2016–2018 mehrmonatige Feldforschungsaufenthalte in Istanbul, Berlin, Beirut, Tel Aviv-Jaffa und Jerusalem. 2019 Promotion im Fach Ethnomusikologie (SOAS) (Thema der Arbeit: Holding on to Aleppo – The Music and Sonic Afterlife of a City in Ruins, Betreuerin: Dr. Ilana Webster-Kogen; Prüfungskomitee: Prof. Martin Stokes und Prof. Laudan Nooshin). 2019–2021 Postdoktorandin der Martin Buber Society of Fellows in the Humanities and Social Sciences an der Hebräischen Universität Jerusalem. Seit Mai 2021 akademische Rätin auf Zeit und Assistenz des Lehrstuhls für Ethnomusikologie am Institut für Musikforschung in Würzburg.

Clara Wenz holds a BA in Philosophy (Munich), a MA in Middle Eastern Studies (SOAS, London) and a PhD in Ethnomusicology (SOAS, London). Drawing on fieldwork undertaken among Jewish and Muslim diasporic and refugee communities in Berlin, Beirut, Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Jerusalem and Istanbul, her PhD research explored how the Syrian city of Aleppo is remembered by its displaced residents and via the music they held onto after leaving their hometown. Prior to joining the Institute of Music Research at the University of Würzburg, she spent several years studying Arabic in Damascus and Beirut, worked at the Goethe Institute in Cairo, and, most recently, held a post-doc position at the Martin Buber Society of Fellows in the Humanities and Social Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
